Kofa swimmers open season strong against Lake Havasu

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Kofa Kings hit the pool for their first swim meet of the season on Thursday, Sept. 4, facing Lake Havasu in a competitive matchup that set the tone for the year.
Junior Jacqui Smith and sophomore Will Rouff highlighted the meet with standout performances in the breaststroke, each securing first-place finishes for Kofa in their specialty events.
The Kings also made a splash in the relays. The boys 200-meter freestyle team, Rouff, junior Nate Hudson, senior Aiden Lorena, and sophomore Matthew Tsivgas, recorded the top boys relay finish of the day.
On the girls' side, senior Elena Packham, sophomore Veronica Packham, freshman Isadora Ortiz, and Smith combined for Kofa's fastest relay time of the meet.
Head coach Bill Packham said the athletes have been enjoying practice and learning about improving their strokes and race planning.
"Now, they're ready to buckle down and get serious," Packham said, calling the opener a great learning experience.
With the first meet in the books, the Kings now have a baseline to build on as they push toward their team and individual goals this season.
