Yuma baseball shuts out Gila Ridge

Yuma rides a big fifth inning and shuts out Gila Ridge in their regular season opener.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Kevin Garcia tossed 6.2 scoreless innings to lead the Yuma Criminals to a 7-0 victory over the Gila Ridge Hawks on Monday.

Yuma moves to 1-0. Gila Ridge falls to 1-4.

Yuma took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Then in the third, the Criminals doubled their lead with Deven Agurriebarrena driving in the run on a sac fly. Yuma would score five runs in the fifth inning to pile on the scoreboard.

For Yuma, Garcia tossed the 6.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. At the plate, Garcia went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.

Juan Ayala went 1 for 4 with a home run.

For Gila Ridge, Raul Vega pitched 4.1 innings giving up seven earned runs and only striking out one batter.

Truett Jaca went 2 for 2 with a triple.

Next week, these two teams with face off once again. Gila Ridge will face Kofa on Wednesday, prior to the rematch with Yuma.
