Yuma Catholic baseball duo sign to play college ball

Yuma Catholic's Mickey Fox and Joey Carey sign to play college baseball.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Catholic's Mickey Fox and Joey Carey each signed to continue their academic and baseball careers at the collegiate level.

Fox has signed to play Division I baseball at Saint Mary's College. The lefty pitcher is the ace of the Shamrocks rotation. Last season Fox went 9-2 with a 1.63 ERA and 106 strikeouts. Fox also led YC at the plate hitting .430.

Fox hopes to be an inspiration to future Shamrocks and athletes from Yuma.

"It's such a small school to come from, a 3A school," Fox said. "It feels good to see everyone from such a small school in baseball, football, and far sometimes basketball sign. It feels good to show that it can happen and just chase your dreams."

Carey signed to play baseball at Santa Barbara City College. Last season the infielder hit .416 with 10 extra base hits. Carey is very excited for this next chapter in his life.

"I love the atmosphere over there," Carey said. "I went on a visit and it was like that was a spot for me. I knew it right away. I'm really excited for going to the beach, especially because the fields like right there."

Fox and Carey are hoping to lead the Shamrocks back to the state title game in 2025. Yuma Catholic opened their season with a 2-1 victory over Seton Catholic on Tuesday.
