Southwest soccer spirals in championship game defeat

Three Eagles shown red cards, as Southwest falls in the CIF San Diego Section Championship Game.

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - The Classical Academy Caiman defeated the Southwest Eagles 3-0 to win the CIF San Diego Section Division IV Championship.

In the first half, Alexander Garcia scored off a corner kick to give Classical Academy a 1-0 lead. In the second half, the Eagles lost their heads and spiraled. Southwest received numerous yellow cards and saw three of their players sent off with red cards. The Caiman scored two more goals to claim the title with a 3-0 victory.

"I think we got frustrated too early," Southwest head coach Rafael Contreras said. "We gotta control our temper. Most of the yellows were because of not liking something and saying something to the ref not because of a play or a foul."

Southwest season comes to an end as the Division IV runners up. Classical Academy moves on to the state tournament.
