Several Criminals rack up 1st Team All-Region honors, capped by Cabrera named as Defensive Player of the Year

Damian Cabrera named 4A Skyline Region DPOY, joining five teammates on All-Region list

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Criminals baseball had their first winning season since 2011 - and when it was all said and done, it showed by having a good list of players receiving honors in the 4A Skyline Region.

With Nick Johnson at the helm, not only did four Crims reach the 1st Team All-Region list, but one standout had his name land as one of the Players of the Year.

4A BASEBALL

Skyline Region Defensive Player of the Year

Damian Cabrera - Yuma (Pitcher & Catcher)

Cabrera tossed an impressive 1.20 ERA over 52.2 innings - locking in three wins and a save with 68 K's on the hill. He even made a decent case for himself for Offensive Player of the Year, batting .410 with 32 hits and 25 RBIs.

4A Skyline All-Region 1st Team

Damian Cabrera - Yuma (Pitcher)

Justin Bouts - Yuma (Position Player)

  • .416, 32 hits, 29 RBI
  • 46 IP, 2.28 ERA, 56 K's

Deven Aguirrebarrena - Yuma (Position Player)

  • .446, 33 hits, 18 RBI

Jaime Ruelas - Yuma (Position Player)

  • .338, 25 hits, 25 runs, 11 stolen bases

4A Skyline All-Region 2nd Team

Juan Lugo - Yuma (Position Player)

  • .417, .951 Fielding %

Eli Lujan - Yuma (Position Player)

  • .280, 23 hits, 26 runs
