Richard Stallworth commits to University of Northern Colorado

Yuma Catholic quarterback gets his shot at Division I football

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - Following a storied high school career on the football field, Yuma Catholic's standout quarterback Richard Stallworth is ready to take the first step in his next chapter of life.

The Shamrock senior has announced he has committed to play at the Division I FCS level for the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.

After two record breaking seasons, Stallworth will now take his talents to the Big Sky Conference for a program in the midst of a coaching turnover.

"(My decision) was about where I was going to be able to go in and make an impact and play," said Stallworth. "Northern Colorado brought in a new coaching staff. They're great guys and I'm really excited to get to work with them. They know what they're doing and we're going to make some serious progress in the Big Sky."

The Bears bring in Stallworth shortly after finishing a high school campaign that ended in him throwing for nearly 12,590 passing yards and 168 touchdowns in his three years as a starter.

Those numbers led to his name being etched atop the entire state of Arizona as the state's passing yards and passing touchdowns leader, which included a record-breaking junior year with 67 touchdowns and over 4,800 yards through the air.

Stallworth also acting as a team leader that helped lead the Rocks to back-to-back state title appearances in 2020 and 2021.

A wonderful career that now points towards a Division I scholarship, representing both the Shamrock family and the entire area on the football scale - as he hopes to make UNC feel like another home.

"Greeley is a great town so it all just kind of clicked together," added Stallworth. "Being the first quarterback in Yuma to go Division I is huge."

Stallworth will make it official with his Letter of Intent signing for the public on February 1.
