Cibola star Bennett Meyer-Wills commits to Prairie View A&M University
Cibola multi-sport athlete Bennett Meyer-Wills signs college letter of intent to Division I school in Texas
YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - From a very young age, Cibola's Bennett Meyer-Wills loved to run.
"I went here to watch the runners when I was a middle schooler," Meyer-Wills said. "Now, being able to run here and make memories with my coaches, teammates and family, its something i'll never forget. The reason I'm standing here now is because of them, it's all because of them as to why I'm here right now,"
Meyer-Wills played basketball for the Cibola Raiders, is on the track and cross country teams as well. He says when he was younger that basketball was his love, now it's cross country that will be taking him to college and competing at the Division I level. On Monday afternoon in the Raider gym, with his mother, father and sister by his side, Bennett signed his college letter of intent to Prairie View A & M University just outside of Houston, Texas.
"They reached out to me and offered me a visit," Meyer-Wills said. "When I went there, it was a big welcome. I want to do criminal justice and the program there is amazing. Overall, a good environment, it's a little outside of Houston, it's in a good area. I love it there and not only could see myself run there but go to school."
Despite all he's accomplished including this past season's third overall finish in the AIA Division I State Cross Country meet, Bennett at times struggled with his own confidence.
"Personally I kind of put myself down a little bit," Meyer-Wills said. "Over the years I noticed myself improving. My coaches coaching me, telling me to trust the work I've been putting in and the results will show."
Now, the results of all that hard work shine bright for Bennett.
"Without you coaches none of this could have happened," Matthew Wills, Bennett's father said. "We can only do so much at home. You guys took the rest from there and we truly appreciate that and we are truly indebted to you. Not only what you've done for Bennett but all of the track and cross country teams."
Bennett plans to major in Criminal Justice. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
