Lady Raiders blow by Kofa, sweep season series

The Cibola Lady Raiders defeated Kofa 14-1 on Thursday night to extend their win streak to six games

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - The Kofa softball season finale took place at the Cibola softball fields on Yuma's west side on Thursday afternoon. The Kings entered the contest 10-10 on the season and looked to avoid a series three game sweep. Cibola on the other hand entered the contest hot, winners of five games in a row and 9 of their past 10.

Cibola's junior pitcher Miranda Salcido started the game by retiring the first three batters she faced. Then, in the bottom of the first with two outs, singled to left field to score teammate Kenzie Nakasawa from second base.

It's the spark Salcido and the Lady Raiders needed. Salcido pitched a complete game while only allowing two hits and added a three run homerun on top of her first inning RBI single.

Delanie Ott also hit a homerun out of the park and Kenzie Nakasawa finished 3 for 4 with two doubles.

The loss for Kofa ends their season with a 10-11 overall record. With the win, Cibola improves to 19-8 on the season. The Lady Raiders are currently ranked #6 in the AIA Class 6A rankings. Cibola will close out the regular season with a road game in San Luis on Saturday before finishing at home on Monday against Maricopa.
