Kings use 8 run third to power past San Luis
Kofa avoids a three game series sweep versus San Luis with 8 run third inning en route to 11-8 victory.
SAN LUIS, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - San Luis junior pitcher Alejandro Vanegas tossed two scoreless innings against the Kofa Kings on Monday afternoon and settled into the top of the third with a five run lead. The San Luis bats came alive in the home half of the second scoring five runs.
Vanegas lost his control, walking the first three batters he faced to start the third inning. With the bases load, Kofa's Sebastian Villegas delivered a base knock up the middle scoring two runs.
Kofa would score a third run and a swinging strike three with the ball getting away from the catcher. Another passed ball resulted in Kofa plating its fourth run of the inning. A throwing error on a stolen base attempt allowed the Kings to tie the score at 5-5. Another walk prompted a pitching change.
Kofa's junior catcher Patricio Badilla had no problem's with the pitching change and hit an opposite field base hit to right to give Kofa their first lead of the contest.
Kofa would hang on for the 11-8 win. Kofa avoided a three game regular series sweep against San Luis and improved their record to 10-5-1 on the season.
On Tuesday the Kings fell on the road to Desert Ridge 8-0. The Kings next will host Gila Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
San Luis was quick to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday, defeating Empire 9-0. The win was the 10th of the season for the Sidewinders who improve their record to 10-3. Next, they'll play in a tournament starting on Wednesday as square off against the 10-0 Walden Grove Red Wolves.
