Shamrocks bats spring into action in home win over Lions

Freshman pitchers Cherish Trujillo & Alyssa Soto combine to blank St. John Paul II in 16-0 drubbing

YUMA, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY-TV ) - For the Yuma Catholic girls softball team, the early portion of the 2022 spring schedule has either been a hit or a miss.

The Lady Shamrocks entered their home meeting with the Lions of St. John Paul II with a 1-3 record on the season. In the 'rocks three losses, the closest game was a seven run loss. In the lone win, a 15-2 runfest against Antleople.

Tuesday at home it would be another run fest for the Lady Shamrocks and the cherry on top, a combined shutout from two freshman pitchers. Cherish Trujillo started and fanned six batters in three innings of work. Freshman Alyssa Soto finished the job striking out five batters in her two innings of work as the Shamrocks rolled to a 16-0 win at home.
