Matadors climb into top 15 of NJCAA rankings

AWC's baseball ascension continues after sweeping Central Arizona College

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Arizona Western baseball is gaining momentum at a key point in the season and is once again climbing the national rankings.

The Matadors moved up four spots to No. 15 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll after a dominant weekend on the road. Arizona Western swept Central Arizona in a three-game series, matching the program’s highest national ranking of the season.

The strong showing also highlights the depth of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Three ACCAC teams are currently ranked in the NJCAA Top 20, including Cochise College at No. 14 and the College of Southern Nevada at No. 16.

Arizona Western will now turn its attention to a major conference matchup this weekend. The Matadors are set to host No. 14 Cochise in a two-day series Friday and Saturday at Walt Kammann Field.

First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday.
