Arizona dominates Arkansas to reach Elite Eight for first time since 2015

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KYMA) - The Arizona Wildcats are heading to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2015 after a commanding 109-88 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Sweet 16.

Arizona delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, showcasing depth and efficiency on the offensive end.

The Wildcats had six players score 14 or more points, a historic feat in NCAA Tournament play, led by Brayden Burries with 23 points.

Freshman standouts Koa Peat and Ivan Kharchenkov added 21 and 15 points respectively, helping Arizona overwhelm Arkansas with a balanced scoring attack.

The Wildcats set the tone early, shooting over 60 percent from the field in the first half and building a double-digit lead they would never relinquish.

Their efficient ball movement and ability to finish at the rim proved too much for an Arkansas team that struggled to keep pace.

Arkansas was led by Darius Acuff Jr., who poured in 28 points, but the Razorbacks lacked the supporting production needed to challenge Arizona down the stretch.

The game also saw tensions rise in the second half, as frustrations boiled over for Arkansas, resulting in technical fouls and an ejection.

For head coach Tommy Lloyd, the win marks a significant milestone. After multiple early exits in recent tournaments, Lloyd and the Wildcats have now broken through to the Elite Eight.

Arizona will now face the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday night, with a trip to the Final Four on the line.

The Wildcats are now one win away from their first Final Four appearance since 2001.
