Cibola’s Madison Mathews making an impact at DI level

The former Cibola softball star is one of four players from Northern Illinois University named to ALL-MAC team

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - It's been a fantastic senior season for former Cibola softball standout Madison Mathews at Northern Illinois University.

The former Lady Raider was recently named one of four NIU Huskies to the ALL-MAC team.

Mathews RBI in extra innings on Wednesday also advanced the Huskies in the MAC Tournament.

Mathews finished the regular season having played in all 49 games for Northern Illinois, leading the Huskies in homeruns (7), RBI (38), doubles (13), total bases (91), slugging percentage (.587) and OPS (.986). Mathews also finished second in batting average at .378.

Besides earning All-MAC honors, Mathews also was awarded the MAC medal of Excellence Award which is awarded to student-athletes who participate at the varsity level in a conference-sponsored sport, maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA, and demonstrate excellence in athletics, leadership, and service.
