Arizona State returns to the field as spring ball kicks off
The Sun Devils are back on the field working to make another run at a Big 12 Title.
TEMPE, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona State wrapped up its first week of spring practice on Saturday with an open session under the lights, giving Sun Devil fans their first glimpse of the 2025 squad.
ASU returns 79% of last seasons production, the second mos in the entire country behind Clemson. Leading the charge is star quarterback and 2024 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year Sam Leavitt and All-American wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.
One of the biggest questions surrounding the Sun Devils is replacing star running back Cam Skattebo, who was the heart and soul of last year's playoff run.
The competition for the starting role is heating up, with juniors Kyson Brown and Raleek Brown, along with Army transfer Kanye Udoh, all vying for reps in the backfield.
A year after being picked to finish dead last, the reigning Big 12 Champions enter 2025 as Fan Duel's co-favorites to win the conference in 2025. However, head coach Kenny Dillingham is not letting his team buy into the head and knows there is plenty of work to be done.
"I thought it was good—not to be confused with great," Dillingham said after practice. "We have to be better than last year. Other teams are improving, and we have to improve even more. Right now, we're not there yet, but we've got 12 more practices, summer, and fall camp to get where we need to be."
ASU will have a total of 15 on field practices over the next month, where they will look to have more fun working harder than anyone in the country.
