Matadors dominate in 11-0 shutout over Community Christian
Arizona Western explodes early, Pacal throws complete-game shutout in series opener
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Western College Matadors (16-5, 8-5) continued their hot streak with a commanding 11-0 victory over Community Christian College (0-16, 0-16) in the opener of their three-game series on Friday afternoon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
Right-hander Lukas Pacal delivered a stellar performance on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout. Pacal allowed just four hits while striking out six and issuing no walks over five innings of work.
The Matadors wasted no time getting on the board, scoring four runs in the first inning, punctuated by a three-run home run from Andres Ontiveros.
Arizona Western kept the momentum rolling in the second, plating five more runs before capping off the scoring with two in the fourth.
Bronson Neave led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Dan Kawanishi also contributed with a 2-for-3 performance, driving in two runs. Javier Diaz recorded two doubles, finishing 2-for-3, while Nathan Houston and Victor Lopez each tallied two-hit games.
With the win, Arizona Western extends its winning streak to four games. The Matadors will look to close out the series strong when they take on the Saints in a Saturday doubleheader, with the first game set for noon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.
