San Diego State aims for third straight Bowl game win on Christmas Eve
Aztecs (7-5) take on Middle Tennessee (7-5) in the EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl in Honolulu
HONOLULU, Hawai'i (KYMA, KECY) - San Diego State football is once again going bowling, as they prepare to take the field in a warm holiday bash on Christmas Eve.
The Brady-Hoke led Aztecs have been in Honolulu this week in preparation for the EasyPost Hawai'i Bowl in a meeting with another 7-5 opponent, Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.Â
The Aztecs are aiming to win their third straight bowl game for a program that was revitalized by none other than Brady Hoke. Hoke spent a short two-year stint at SDSU, going 9-4 and winning the Poinsettia Bowl in 2010 after 11 straight losing seasons dating back to 1998 in the Ted Tollner era.
After sitting at 4-4 heading into the last third of the season, the Aztecs won three our of four, making them eligible for their 12th straight bowl appearance.Â
"Playing in the Hawaii Bowl, we're really really excited," said Hoke. "We're very excited to have the opportunity to compete with a very good football team, and in some ways, our seasons kind of were the same."
On the other sideline, Hoke's counterpart, Rick Stockstill and the Blue Raiders are making their 10th bowl appearance in his 17-year tenure.Â
Stockstill also gave some praise to Hoke and the Aztecs before they hit the field tomorrow.
"We're looking forward to the opportunity to compete against a really good San Diego State team," said Stockstill. "A lot of respect for Brady and his team and what they've accomplished this year, and what he's accomplished since he's been there at San Diego State." Â
The game is set to kick off Saturday at 5 p.m. PST/6 p.m. MST on ESPN.
