YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Two Arizona Western College softball players earned national recognition this season after being named to the NJCAA Division I All-American teams, after the Matadors' successful run to a second consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Division I Softball World Series.

Pitcher Jessica Smith was selected to the NJCAA Division I All-American Second Team following a dominant sophomore campaign. The Australian standout served as Arizona Western's ace throughout the season and played a pivotal role in the team's postseason success.

At the World Series, Smith pitched every inning for the Matadors, totaling 25 innings across four games while allowing just 10 runs. During the regular season, she compiled a 1.35 ERA, recorded 20 wins and struck out 164 batters.

In addition to her All-American selection, Smith was named the Region I MVP after helping lead Arizona Western back to the national tournament. She is set to continue her collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level with the University of South Carolina Upstate Spartans.

Smith was not the only Matador recognized on the national stage.

Infielder Analy Trejo earned NJCAA Division I All-American Third Team honors after producing one of the top offensive seasons in the program. Trejo led Arizona Western in nearly every major offensive category, including runs scored, hits and home runs.

The El Paso native continued her strong play at the World Series, batting .363 while driving in four runs.

The All-American selections cap another successful season for Arizona Western softball, which once again established itself among the top junior college programs in the country.
