NBC 11 Sports: Yuma sets record for wrestlers at state tournament
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - 49 wrestlers from Yuma Union High School District qualified for the state tournament this weekend, marking the most in the district's history. Plenty of wrestlers made it to the finals with multiple coming back home as a champion. A bigger story on states is set for Sunday's newscast.
Yuma Catholic was unable to get revenge on Gilbert Christian in a 3A Conference boys soccer championship rematch from 2025, falling 2-1 - the same score from last year's title game.
For the fourth time this year, San Luis and Kofa faced off in boys soccer. This time it was in the 6A quarterfinals and the Sidewinders coming out as victors. They won 4-2.
Yuma Catholic girls basketball was also victorious today, as they defended home court against Show Low to advance to the semifinals with a 49-26 win.
25-year-old Rondale Moore, former wide receiver and 2021 second-round draft selection for the Arizona Cardinals passed away from an apparent suicide. KYMA will have more details as they come out.
