Bad News Bears Jiu Jitsu has grand opening

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Bad News Bears Jiu Jitsu officially opened this weekend, welcoming residents of all ages to learn the fundamentals of the rapidly growing martial art of jiu jitsu.
The new dojo showcased the sport by allowing fighters to put their skills on display during its opening, highlighting the technical and disciplined nature of jiu jitsu. Leading the effort is CJ Monsour, a seasoned jiu jitsu fighter and the owner of Bad News Bears Jiu Jitsu.
“I started jiu jitsu in 2016 when I was 28-years-old," he said. "We want to add to the jiu jitsu community or combat sports, in general.”
Monsour said his goal is to foster an inclusive environment that emphasizes community building and shared passion rather than exclusivity. The dojo is open to participants ranging from children to older adults, with a focus on making the sport accessible regardless of age or prior experience.
“I’m more geared towards hobbyists," Monsour said. "I want to get people who are like me who want to do something to be healthy, learn a new skill and just come in and have a good time.”
With its doors now open, Bad News Bears Jiu Jitsu aims to provide an entry point into the fighting community for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, offering a place to train, learn and connect through the discipline of jiu jitsu.
