Alex Honnold, American rock climber, becomes first person to climb Taipei 101 in Taiwan

(CNN, KYMA) - American rock climber Alex Honnold has made history as he became the first person ever to scale a 101-story skyscraper without any ropes or safety net in Taiwan Sunday.

Taipei 101 is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. The building is 1,667 feet tall.

Honnold is an experienced rock climber, but admitted climbing a building is a lot different than scaling rock faces.

He said he's been waiting to scale a skyscraper for about a decade, and Netflix broadcasted Honnold's climb live as it happened.

Honnold is used to facing difficult tasks as he climbed 3,000 feet and reached the top of El Capitan in California without any safety gear in 2017.
