Trey McBride breaks franchise single-season reception record for a tight end

CINCINNATI, Ohio (KYMA, KECY) - Tight end Trey McBride etched his name into the NFL record books on Sunday, delivering a historic performance despite the team’s ongoing struggles.
McBride caught 10 passes against the Bengals, pushing his season total to 119 receptions and breaking the NFL record for most catches by a tight end in a single season. The previous mark of 116 was set by former Cardinal Zach Ertz during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018. With one regular-season game still remaining, the 26-year-old has a chance to extend the record even further.
McBride also recorded 111 receptions last season, giving him the most catches by a tight end over a two-year span in NFL history.
In the process, McBride also rewrote the Cardinals’ franchise record book. His 119 receptions surpassed DeAndre Hopkins’ team record of 115 catches, which was set during the 2020 season - a notable achievement for a tight end in a franchise that has featured several prolific wide receivers.
McBride is not finished chasing history, either. He needs just 33 receiving yards in Week 18 against the Los Angeles Rams to break the Cardinals’ single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end. That mark has stood since 1967, when Hall of Famer Jackie Smith totaled 1,205 yards.
Drafted in the second round in 2022, McBride is under contract through the 2029 season. As the Cardinals look ahead and continue to rebuild, he has proven to be a vital piece of the roster and focal point of the offense.
