Los Angeles crushes Cincinnati, San Diego loses close one to Cubs in Game 1 of WCS

The first day of the 2025 MLB postseason was eventful

LOS ANGELES (KYMA) - The first day of the 2025 MLB Postseason was eventful as the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 and the San Diego Padres dropped game one of their Wild Card Series 3-1.

The Padres jumped to an early lead when Xander Bogaerts hit a double into the left-field gap, driving in Jackson Merrill from second, but that would be their only run as the Cubs hit back-to-back homers in the bottom of the fifth and didn't look back.

Nice Hoerner added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to center, which allowed Dansby Swanson to score from third.

Chicago would ultimately beat San Diego by that score, 3-1 as the Padres need to win back-to-back games on Wednesday and Thursday to advance to the National League Divisional Round against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Farther north in California, the Dodgers hosted the Reds in their first game of their Wild Card round duel.

This game was all L.A., as they tacked on eight runs before Cincinnati cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh.

Both Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández had a pair of home runs, while Tommy Edman added another.

Cincinnati scored late in the game, but ultimately fell 10–5.

With a win Wednesday, the Dodgers can advance to the next round of the playoffs where they would face the Philadelphia Phillies.
