Chargers take first loss of season at hands of Jaxson Dart, Giants
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (KYMA) - The Chargers headed into Sunday's matchup riding high at 3‑0, but came up short in a hard‑fought 21‑18 defeat at the hands of the New York Giants.
The Chargers offense started off slow with a three-and-out and interception on their first two drives, allowing the Giants to get out to a 10-0 lead. Jaxson Dart scored his first career touchdown in the midst of it with a 15-yard run untouched through the middle of the Chargers' defense.
With limited time left in the first half, the Chargers were able to get their act together, stringing together a slew of passes culminated by a 36-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Quentin Johnston with 0:27 left in the second quarter.
Justin Herbert threw his second interception of the game in the third quarter, leading to a Giants touchdown. Los Angeles would answer quickly with running back Omarion Hampton breaking free for a 54-yard run into the end zone to make it a 21-16 deficit. Herbert punched in a two-point conversion after to make it a three point affair.
The defense stonewalled the Giants in the fourth quarter, allowing no points. The great play did not translate to the offense, though, as the Chargers were unable to score, as well.
They fall to 3-1 on the season after a quick stretch of impressive wins over every division opponent.
