Diamondbacks collapse late, fall 10-7 to Rockies

DENVER (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a crushing 10-7 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night at Coors Field, giving up a five-run lead with a late-inning collapse.

Arizona was in full control for most of the game, but a six-run bottom of the eighth by the Rockies flipped the script and handed the D-backs a defeat.

Early on, the Diamondbacks looked like they were going to run away with the game. Catcher Adrian Del Castillo continued his breakout stretch, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Ketel Marte each tallied two hits, helping Arizona build a 7–2 lead by the sixth inning.

Ryne Nelson delivered a strong performance on the mound, going 6.1 innings and giving up four runs on eight hits. His effort gave Arizona a firm grip on the game as the bullpen took over.

That grip quickly loosened. In the eighth inning, with Arizona leading 7–4, reliever Andrew Hoffman was tagged for a double and issued two walks, loading the bases. Brenton Doyle then ripped a two-run double to bring Colorado within one. A pinch-hit single by Kyle Farmer tied the game.

Two outs later, Tyler Freeman dealt the fatal blow: A two-run homer to left field that gave the Rockies their first lead of the night.

With the series now tied, Arizona will turn to Zac Gallen in Sunday’s rubber match, looking to bounce back quickly and avoid a series loss to a last-place Rockies team that just reminded them no game is over until the 27th out.
