Padres keep momentum going with strong win

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - The Padres looked to keep their post All-Star break momentum going against the St. Louis Cardinals.

They took home a 7-3 win behind a strong start from Dylan Cease.

After surviving the trade deadline, Cease was nails through five innings of work. He worked through the Cardinals' lineup with ease, recording nine strikeouts and allowing just one hit.

On offense, Jake Cronenworth cracked the scoreboard with a towering home run over the right center wall in the fourth inning.

The Padres offense got quiet for some time but in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases juiced, Jackson Merrill snuck the ball down the first base line to clear the bases.

They now look forward to a road series against National League West Divisional opponent, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
