Daniel Chavez Jr. competes in USA Boxing Junior Nationals

Despite the early exit, Chavez Jr. is taking positives away from the experience for future competition

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Daniel Chavez Jr. is coming off another trip where he got the chance to face the country's best young fighters.

The amateur out of Yuma Fight Academy competed in the USA Boxing Junior Nationals out in Las Vegas Nev. from June 14-21.

However, it was not the result Chavez Jr. wanted, as he would lose via judges' decision to Mykese Montgomery out of Florida.

"I thought I won, in fact we thought we did enough, but my dad always said, you can't leave it up to the judges, and we left it up to the judges again," Chavez Jr. said.

The result comes about two months after an early exit at a national tournament in Pueblo, Colo. as well.

"I think the biggest thing I took away from this one was to stick with the game plan," Chavez Jr. said.

Next up for Chavez Jr. will be the 2025 USA Boxing National Open in Tulsa, Okla. from Sept. 13-20.
