Calexico baseball advances to San Diego Section Championship game

A Jose Ortega home run helped to put the Bulldogs back in a section title game for the first time since 2023

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Calexico baseball (23-4-1) took down Escondido (22-9) on Tuesday 6-4 to advance to the San Diego Section Division III championship game.

The Bulldogs struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Scoring again in the bottom of the third, a Jose Ortega home run in the fourth inning would help make it a 4-1 game.

The win now put Calexico back in a section title game for the first time since 2023, when they won a Division IV championship against The Bishop's School.

The game will take place Saturday, May 31 at UC San Diego, as the Bulldogs will take on University City.
