Scottie Scheffler seizes control of PGA Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C (KYMA, KECY) - At Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club on Saturday, Scottie Scheffler didn’t just take the lead. He took over.
With a four-swing stretch that felt more myth than man, the world's No. 1 golfer grabbed the 2025 PGA Championship by the throat and refused to let go.
Coming off a turbulent Friday that included a brief detainment over a traffic misunderstanding, Scheffler bounced back with focus, fire, and four flawless shots that redefined moving day.
It started at the par-5 10th, where Scheffler crushed a 330-yard drive down the center, then followed it with a towering 5-iron to 15 feet Eagle.
One hole later, on the short par-3 11th, he stuck a 9-iron to inside two feet for a tap-in birdie. Then, on 12, he took a risk off the tee, carving a fairway wood around the corner that left him just 80 yards in — another birdie. And just like that, Scheffler went from contender to commander.
"I just found a rhythm," Scheffler said post-round. "That stretch...it's why you play. Everything clicked."
What made it even more surreal was the composure. These weren't just great golf shots. They were clinical, aggressive, and perfectly timed.
As pressure mounted and the leaderboard crowded, Scheffler created separation the only way he knows how: elite shot-making and ice-cold precision.
His run left him atop the leaderboard heading into Sunday, seeking his third major title, and his second of the year. With his putter finally matching his iron play, the rest of the field may be playing for second.
Golf is a game of inches. But sometimes, four perfect swings can feel like miles. Just ask Scottie Scheffler. Or better yet, try to catch him.
