Two Kofa boy’s soccer players commit to Nelson University
Manuel Heras and Isaiah Galindo each signed their letters of intent to join the Warriors program in the Fall
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Continuing the wave of local athletes joining Nelson University, Kofa boy's soccer players Manuel Heras and Isaiah Galindo signed their letters of intent to join the Warriors program.
The duo were defenders with the Kings program, and will play for Nelson during the school's inaugural season, competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association.
"Nelson's a really small school, and I really like that because it's more community, and they help you a lot more with your classes," Heras said.
Of course, getting to go along with a teammate is something making the transition easier for both players.
"I feel like it would make me a lot more comfortable going, knowing I'm gonna have a lot of friends around me (to) support me on my journey," Galindo said.
A big reason for each player deciding to join the Warriors was the recommendation by their head coach, Jamie Nicewander.
"I've never heard about Nelson until like, recently, but my coach told me about it," Heras said.
"Coach Jamie was the one that actually announced to me about the school," Galindo said.
Heras also says regardless of the school, Nicewander was the one who helped him elevate his game to have a career at the college level.
"Â I didn't think I was good enough, but over the years, he really showed me and pushed me to do better, which really helped me," Heras said.
Both players say they plan on majoring in business administration.
