Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant’s rookie jerseys to be up for auction

(CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Game jerseys that were worn by NBA greats Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant during their rookie seasons are up for auction by Sotheby's.

The Michael Jordan jersey was worn Oct. 5, 1984, in Peoria, Illinois, where he played his first game for the Chicago Bulls.

The Kobe Bryant jersey was his first jersey from his 1996-97 rookie reason with the Los Angeles Lakers. It has been photo-matched to his first NBA Media Day, his preseason debut in October 1996, and regular-season debut on November 1.

The most-expensive jersey ever sold was the Babe Ruth's "called shot" jersey from the 1932 World Series, which sold for $24.1 million at auction, and the most expensive NBA jersey was a Michael Jordan game-worn 1998 NBA finals jersey that went for $10.1 million in September 2022.

The auction for the jerseys starts on March 21.
