Arizona Western hoops featured on NJCAA Game of the Week on ESPN+ again

Both men's and women's Matadors teams hit ESPN+ for the third time in 2022

YUMA, Ariz., (KYMA, KECY) - For the third time this season, the Arizona Western Matadors and Lady Matadors basketball teams will be featured on ESPN+ as the NJCAA Game of the Week in an ACCAC doubleheader.

Both teams coming off of road wins in Scottsdale over the weekend, will host the Mesa Thunderbirds at The House Gymnasium Wednesday night. Men's tipping off at 5:30 pm and women's tipping off at 7:30 pm.

It's all part of a partnership between the NJCAA and ESPN who signed a multi-year media rights agreement that will feature live broadcasts of NJCAA Basketball, Football, Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball games as well as the 2022-23 DI Football, DI Volleyball, DI Men's Basketball, and DI Women's Basketball Championship games on ESPN +, an online subscription-based streaming service.

AWC's Sports Information Director, Michael Broskowski, believes it's something that will help move NJCAA sports along on a bigger stage - something to help both the athletes and their schools.

"I think it's going to help tremendously in terms of junior college athletics showcasing what every school has to offer. Not just athletically, but you're given a platform to showcase your school," said Broskowski. "It's also a great for student athletes who are still trying to get recruited, still trying to move on to the next level. They're being seen more out there. It's more accessible when you're on ESPN+. You're scrolling down a list of college basketball games and we're right there, so it's special."
