TEMPE, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Cardinals have announced the addition of a new helmet for the upcoming season.
The team describes its new helmet as "a shiny, gloss black shell with red flecks as well as a black facemask."
Many teams throughout the league have been unveiling new alternate or throwback helmets over this offseason.
League policy regarding how many helmet variations a team is allowed to have was changed back in June 2021.
This season is the first where teams are allowed to officially use the new helmets.
Fans will get their first on-field look at the new lids on Aug 21 when the Cardinals take on the Baltimore Ravens in a nationally televised preseason game on Fox.
Players will then sport the new look for the first time in the regular season during their week five matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The helmet will then be worn for the team's Thursday Night Football matchup against the New Orleans Saints in week seven.
For that game, the Cardinals will also wear their color rush uniforms.
In a press release sent out on Sunday, Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill shared his excitement for the new look.
"The look of this helmet is so incredibly sharp and something I know that both are players and fans will absolutely love,” Bidwill said.
“We are excited to showcase them this season, especially on a national stage.”
