Boys basketball summer league returns
Yuma area scrimmages begin
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A local prep sports Summer tradition returns.
Less than a week after graduations took place across Yuma County, the Prep Boys Summer League tips off.
Since 2015, area prep programs from across the Desert Southwest have banded together to put on a series of basketball scrimmages all throughout the month of June.
This Summer, the scrimmages will take place at "The Palace" on the campus of Yuma High School.
To open up the Summer League, the programs of Kofa, Yuma, Cibola and Yuma Catholic have participated on the opening day.
Yuma Criminals Head Basketball Coach Curt Weber explains why the Summer League is invaluable for all of it's participants.
"That's a huge part of the season for us, is to get these kids playing court time and get them some minutes, get them under live situations against other people. Not the people they see every day in practice. But people that are, that are, you know, probably a notch better than they are. And you don't develop unless you challenge yourself a little bit. So we're really excited about the opportunities."

The Summer League scimmages will continue every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at Yuma High School until the end of the month of June.
This will culminate with closing tournament consisting of all participating teams.
The Imperial Valley will likely have 4 to 5 programs participating in the Summer League in the weeks ahead.
