Criminals play spoiler

Yuma baseball edges Buckeye

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Criminals baseball lost enough critical games in the home stretch of the regular season to miss out on a chance of making a run at the state playoffs.

But with the Buckeye Hawks needing a win to get into the postseason dance, the Crims couldn't pass on the chance of ruining their opponent's playoff chances.

The Crims would put together a gutsy low-scoring performance to narrowly defeat the Hawks by a final score of 2-1.

Starting pitcher Damian Cabrera put up a solid complete game performance with 7 strikeouts.

Both teams traded runs in the 1st 4 innings, before Edgar Castro came through with the game winning RBI.

The win gives Yuma positive momentum going into the offseason, and will also likely eliminate Buckeye from the upcoming 4A play-in round of the playoffs.
