Arians promoted

Former Cardinals coach takes front office role with Bucs

TAMPA, Fla. (KYMA, KECY) - The head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is stepping aside.

The team announced Wednesday that Bruce Arians is stepping away from the sidelines and into a front office role, with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles taking his place.

The Super Bowl winning coach's new job will be Senior Football Consultant, beginning with the preparation for April's NFL Draft.

Meanwhile, Bowles' promotion to head coach makes him 1 of only a handful of minority coaches in the league.

Both Arians and Bowles have a history with the Arizona Cardinals, as Tampa's new head coach was defensive coordinator of the Red Birds during Arian's tenure in the desert.

This is Bowles' second NFL head coaching gig.

He held the role with the New York Jets from 2015 to 2018.
