Dodgers and Padres dance again, Bumgarner tosses unofficial no-no, and more

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Sunday night proved to be the showcase in the NL West division that Major League Baseball fans have been waiting for. A new, boiling rivalry with the reigning World champs and their "Baby Brother" Padres.

It has now been two straight weekends of this growing rivalry playing out for baseball fans across the country. All games have been as entertaining as imagined. From diving catches to end the game, to extra inning thrillers.

After a split series heading into Sunday Night Baseball, the Padres were looking to steal the show on the road. But it didn't start off too hot.

After Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his 5th home run in the three-game series to make it a 2-1 Dodgers lead, it was all Dodgers until the late innings. They took a 7-1 lead after a pair of home runs, but the lead wouldn't last.

The Padres would score two runs in the 7th inning, two runs in the 8th inning and then tie things up with two more runs in the 9th inning after a Trent Grisham RBI single and a Manny Machado RBI single.

The Padres would then take the lead in the 11th inning on an Eric Hosmer sacrifice fly to score Tatis Jr.

Mark Melancon came on for the save and the Padres would take the rubber match of the three-game set with the 8-7 victory in LA.

For Diamondbacks baseball, it was quite a successful Sunday afternoon. The D'Backs took on the Atlanta Braves in a double-header at Truist Park in Atlanta.

After Zac Gallen pitched a one-hit gem in the first game with a 5-0 Arizona win, that would not be the story of the day.

Instead, it was former World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner stealing the show in the mound in game two.

The performance would also spark major conversations on the web amongst baseball fans and experts. With new MLB rules, doubleheader games in 2021 will have two seven-inning games instead of two nine-inning games.

On Sunday, after seven innings, Bumgarner threw a no-hitter in a 7-0 win for the Diamondbacks. The "no-hitter" is considered an "unofficial no-hitter" because it's not the full nine inning game.

Nonetheless, it was an impressive performance by Bumgarner and Arizona improves to 10-11 on the year after the two wins.
