Looking for the next class

Deadline extends for nominations to Kofa's 3rd athletics class.

Kofa High School Athletics has already successfully ushered in the 1st 2 classes in it's Athletic Hall of Fame.

The names on the wall are already pretty loaded with heavy-hitters; which includes the likes of the UFC's Cain Velasquez, local racing legend Gordie Rivera, Dean Stout, Bonnie Watters and Sandy Noujaim.

Now, the Hall of Fame committee is pushing back this year's nomination submission deadline from June 1st to July 1st.

For committee chairman Billy Laguna, the process of turning in nominations and the committee examining them to see if they meet the criteria of excellence in athletics at Kofa as well as the game of life; reflects the greatness of the Kofa program and the individuals who helped to build it.

"Well, it definitely honors these great people as individuals and also as teams. Because, what happens is a lot of times, I hate to say this, but a lot of times, people leave high school and they go on and they do great things. And sometimes, people don't hear about them. And it just kind of gives us a chance to honor these individuals and let everybody in the community see that they have gone on to do pretty amazing and awesome things. So, they are enshrined in Kofa history forever; in the hall of fame."

Anyone can make a nomination.

All nominations must be submitted on the official Kofa High School Athletic Hall of Fame nomination form at the Kofa Athletic office or on the web.

You can log on to www.yumaunion.org or to the KHS Hall of Fame facebook page to submit your nominations.
