AWC men’s basketball wins 8th straight

Matadors use slower tempo in victory over Cochise.

Head Coach Charles Harral addressing the Matadors during 2nd half timeout.

The old cliche "defense wins championships" played out with the Arizona Western College men's basketball team on Wednesday night; even if it was just a regular season conference game.

The Matadors set the tone early on Cochise that resonated through the rest of contest; as they forced a dozen turnovers that translated into 14 of their 1st 37 points in the 1st half.

The lack of transition game turned the 2nd half turned into a game that was decided by physical play and free throw shooting.

The Mats used the slower tone to their advantage, coming away with the 68-53 win.

Cash Williams led AWC with 21 points in the victory.

The Mats extend their winning streak to 8 games, as they play a tough 2-game road series this coming weekend; starting with Mesa on Saturday.
