Ariana Grande steps back from public life

(NBC, KYMA) - Ariana Grande will be stepping away from the public eye after her tour wraps in London on September 1, People Magazine have reported.

A representative for the U.S. pop star has reportedly told the publication that her "public-facing work and appearances" have led to "endless, ongoing public scrutiny."

Grande will also no longer be starring in a revival of Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George," due to open at London's Barbican Centre in Summer 2027.

A statement was published on the arts center's website confirming Grande has decided to step back from the production, which will also feature her "Wicked" co-star, actor Jonathan Bailey.

"We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support," the statement read.

The 33-year-old, who is the recipient of three Grammy awards including best pop vocal album, has faced intense scrutiny over her body and health in recent years.

That speculation intensified on July 31 with the release of her "Petal" music video, which arrived alongside her album of the same name.

In the video, Grande portrays a hopeful performer who is dismissed in auditions as "nothing special," "boring to look at" and "desperate," and is accused of having "too much work done."

She eventually turns a chainsaw on the male judging panel.

The pop star, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Glinda in the first "Wicked" film, has three shows left on the Chicago leg of her tour, followed by a 10-night run at London's O2 arena.
