AI-generated docudrama to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival
LOS ANGELES (CBS, KYMA) - It's hard to imagine a movie made with no lights, no cameras and no actors, but that movie is now here.
"Dreams of Violets," fully generated by artificial intelligence (AI), is set to premiere next month as AI remakes the world of entertainment.
AI is stealing the Hollywood spotlight as "Dreams of Violets," the first-ever fully AI-generated docudrama premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival next week.
"There's no way for me to go get millions of dollars to make this film," said Ash Koosha, the film's director.
"Dreams of Violets" is a fictional dramatization of Iranian civilian resistance. Specifically, the creators say the film shows the events around the massacre of Iranian civilians by government forces in January 2026 during which purportedly thousands of Iranians were killed.
Koosha says the film cost just $2,000 to produce, and two months for AI programs to generate all of the film's imagery. No cast, no crew, and a fraction of the money and time it'd take with traditional moviemaking.
According to a press release from AI company Fountain 0, "While every image and person in the film is AI generated, it is based on journalistic reports, photographs, and eyewitness accounts."
Koosha and his brother, Pooya, who are first-time filmmakers, also spoke about the worries of Hollywood and AI, with the brothers saying:
"We fully understand the very genuine sensitivities of those individuals working in the movie industry, and like them we are worried what the unknown implications are for the livelihoods of many. New types of jobs will undoubtedly be created in the AI film generation world. But the reality is that this film never would have been made if it were not for the AI capabilities that we were able to develop."
"Dreams of Violets" is set to premiere at the festival Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the AMC in New York City's Flatiron District.
