Singer Bonnie Tyler recovering after emergency surgery

(CNN, KYMA) - Singer Bonnie Tyler is recovering after emergency surgery.

The 74-year-old underwent intestinal surgery in Portugal, where she has a home. A statement issued last week on her behalf says that surgery was successful.

Her manager issued a second statement indicating doctors put Tyler in a medically-induced coma to aid her recovery.

The gravelly-voiced Welsh singer had a string of hits in the 1970s and 80s. She's best known for "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "I Need a Hero."

Tyler has released 18 albums, most recently in 2021.
