Lionsgate releases new trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’

(CBS, KYMA) - Lionsgate has released a new trailer for "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping."

The film is the latest installment in the "Hunger Games" franchise. The original Hunger Games book was published in 2008 and the film premiered in 2012.

"Sunrise on the Reaping," based on Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel of the same name, is set 24 years before the events of “The Hunger Games."

This marks the second time Collins has explored the world again and written prequels for her original famed trilogy.

"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" was the first prequel novel by Suzanne Collins, set 64 years before The Hunger Games, exploring the origins of the villainous President Coriolanus Snow as an 18-year-old mentor in the 10th Hunger Games.

The book was published in 2020 and the film premiered in 2023.

"Sunrise on the Reaping" follows the story of Haymitch Abernathy, whom fans met previously in the original trilogy as the mentor to heroine Katniss Everdeen.

In the film, the story opens on the 50th Hunger Games, also know as the second Quarter Quell, where each district of the dystopian country must send twice the amount of tributes to the Capitol.

Instead of the standard 24 tributes, 48 children must fight to the death in the Hunger Games.

The film premieres in the United States on November 20, 2026.
