Taylor Swift sued for alleged trademark infringement on ‘Life of a Showgirl’ album

(NBC, KYMA) - Taylor Swift has been accused of trademark infringement in a new lawsuit over the branding of her latest album, "The Life of a Showgirl."

In a suit filed Monday, Maren Wade, a singer and columnist, claims the superstar's latest album has similarities to her column turned show called "Confessions of a Showgirl."

In the complaint, Wade says, "Both share the same structure, the same dominant phrase, and the same overall commercial impression" and goes on to say, "Both are used in overlapping markets and are directed at the same consumers."

The suit claims the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office notified Swift's team her album title could be confused with an existing trademark, but Swift used it anyway.

Wade launched her weekly column "Confessions of a Showgirl" about life in the Las Vegas entertainment industry in 2014. She later started a podcast and live cabaret show all under the same branding.

Representatives for Swift have not commented on the suit.
