Robert Carradine, ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ and ‘Lizzie McGuire’ actor, dies at 71
(NBC, KYMA) - Actor Robert Carradine has died at the age of 71.
In a Tuesday statement to Deadline, his family said he lived with bipolar disorder for two decades and died by suicide.
"We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it," his brother Keith Carradine told Deadline. "It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day."
Carradine was best known for his role as Lewis Skolnick in the "Revenge of the Nerds" franchise, a character that became a pop culture staple throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
He later found a new generation of fans playing Sam McGuire on the Disney Channel's hit series "Lizzie McGuire."
A Los Angeles native, Carradine would have turned 72 in March. He leaves behind a decades-long career in film and television that spanned genres and generations.
