Brad Arnold, lead singer and co-founder of 3 Doors Down, dies at 47

(NBC, KYMA) - Brad Arnold, the lead singer and co-founder of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47.

Arnold's death was announced by the band in an Instagram post Saturday.

He was one of the founding members of 3 Doors Down, a band that hit major success in the 2000s.

One hit song at the time, "Kryptonite," was written by Arnold when he was just 15 years old. Other well known songs include "Here Without You," "Let Me Go" and "It's Not My Time."

Arnold announced he had Stage IV kidney cancer in May of last year, which caused the band to cancel their tour.

He passed away "peacefully" in his sleep "after his courageous battle with cancer." According to the post, his wife and family were by his side.
