Country music icon Dolly Parton celebrates 80th birthday

(NBC, KYMA) - Monday marks a milestone for one of the most influential and enduring figures in American music.

Country music icon Dolly Parton turns 80 Monday, making nearly seven decades since she began her career as a young singer-songwriter in Tennessee.

Over the years, Parton has become a global superstar, achieving success not only in country music, but also as a crossover artist, actress, and cultural icon.

To commemorate the occasion, Parton announced on social media that she has released a new version of her classic song, "Light of a Clear Blue Morning."

The updated recording features collaborations with Lainey Wilson, her goddaughter Miley Cyrus, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire.

True to her long-standing commitment to giving back, Parton is donating the net proceeds from the song and its accompanying music video to pediatric cancer research at Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, a cause she has supported for years through her philanthropy, including her nationally recognized imagination library program.
