‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ earns nearly $1.25 billion, remains no. 1 for fourth weekend in a row

(CNN, KYMA) - Some new movies challenged the reigning champ at the weekend box office, but did any of them do well enough to nab the crown?

Lionsgate's "Greenland 2: Migration," the sequel to the 2020 film starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, debuted in fifth place with $8.5 million.

Disney's "Zootopia 2" took fourth place with $10.1 million, giving it $379 million domestic, and $1.65 billion globally, making it Disney Animation's highest-grossing movie ever.

Lionsgate's "The Housemaid" starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried landed in third place, earning $11.2 million.

Paramount's "Primate" was the new movie of 2026, scaring up $11.3 million to debut in second place.

After dominating the box office for three straight weekends, 20th Century Studio's "Avatar: Fire and Ash" is still going strong.

The third film in the series topped the chart for a fourth straight weekend, earning $21.3 million, $343 million domestic, and nearly $1.25 billion worldwide.
