Katy Perry’s butterfly prop malfunctions mid-air during concert in San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A major scare for Katy Perry during a concert. Video captured shows the singer riding a mechanical butterfly above fans in SanFrancisco on Friday when it malfunctions.
She recovered, but this isn't the only recent close call for a big time performer.
A heart-stopping moment on tour for singer Katy Perry.
Video shows the pop star midair trying to hang on to a prop butterfly as it suddenly tilts and drops. Perry pauses, then continues singing, even ending the performance with a quip at her luck saying, "Not today, Satan."
"As she got closer to us all of a sudden I noticed that this thing dropped...I think everyone was nervous including herself you can see in the video she looks up at the cable to make sure she's stable," said Joe Daniels-Salamanca, a Katy Perry fan who posted the video on Instagram. "Once she realized she was ok, she went on singing, and I think she handled it very well."
Last month, Perry had a similar mishap during her "Lifetimes Tour" in Australia.
The singer nearly fell off a hanging metal ball prop that tipped during a concert. Perry is just one of many celebrities who has taken to the air to connect with fans.
Beyonce also had a malfunction when her flying red car tilted over the crowd mid-concert in Houston.
"If you go up in the air and circle around the arena, you're having FaceTime with the people in the nose bleeds, but you know, other superstars, now that they've seen the look of alarm on Katy Perry's face [and] on Beyonce's face, I would think they might think twice about going forward with it," said Chris William, Chief Music Critic at Variety.
