Vest seen in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ sells for $279,400

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - It may be the ugliest sweater-vest you've ever seen, but it was sold for more than a quarter-million dollars at an auction Tuesday.

The iconic sweater worn by Matthew Broderick in the 1986 classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" went for $279,400 at Sotheby's New York.

The character wore it in the legendary "Twist and Shout" parade scene in Chicago almost 40 years ago, and the vest got a lot of buzz running up to the auction.

It attracted 11 bids, starting at $100,000.

The film's stylist bought the piece off the rack at Marshall Field's as a cardigan, and chopped the sleeves off, and is now one of the most recognizable pieces of 80s pop culture.
