Richard Chamberlain, “Allan Quatermain” actor, dies at 90
(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Legendary actor Richard Chamberlain has died.
Chamberlain died Saturday night in Waimanalo, Hawaii from complications following a stroke, according to his publicist.
The Emmy-nominated actor and 1960s heartthrob rocketed to fame in the TV medical drama "Dr. Kildare," and starred in two extremely popular miniseries, "Shogun" and "The Thorn Birds."
He also starred in a variety of stage productions including "My Fair Lady" and "The Sound of Music," and in films such as "The Three Musketeers" and "The Towering Inferno" in the 70s, as well as starring as Allan Quatermain in the 1985 adaptation of "King Solomon's Mines," and its 1986 follow-up "Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold."
Later in his career, after coming out publicly, Chamberlain played both gay and straight characters in TV shows including "Brothers & Sisters," "Will & Grace" and "Desperate Housewives."
Chamberlain was 90-years-old.
